Air conditioning is standard for 2002 on higher-trim versions of Hyundais smallest car. Hyundai Accent comes in three models. GS hatchbacks and GL 4-dr sedans have a 1.6-liter engine and either manual or automatic transmission. This South Korean automaker offers one of the industrys longest warranties: 5-years/60,000-mi. bumper-to-bumper, 10-years/100,000 powertrain.
On a 96.1-inch wheelbase, the Hyundai Accenthas an overall length of 166.7 inches — about 8 inches shorter than the Ford Focus sedan or the Honda Civic.

Capable of seating five occupants, at least in theory, the Hyundai Accent has two front buckets and a rear bench seat. Cargo volume is 11.8 cubic feet for the sedan and 16.9 cubic feet for the hatchback. Standard equipment includes power steering, a cassette player and a rear-window defroster.
The base model uses a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine that develops 92 hp, while the GL and GS models get a 105-hp, 1.6-liter four-cylinder. Both power plants can team with a standard five-speed manual or an optional four-speed-automatic transmission. The "Hyundai Accent" is easy to drive. Air conditioning becomes standard equipment on GS and GL models. Otherwise, Hyundais bargain-basement car soldiers on to 2002 with no changes in store.
The entry-level Hyundai Accent is no exception to Hyundais rule. Three versions are available. A larger 103-horsepower 1.6-liter is optional on L and standard on GS and GL models. This DOHC design offers more power and increased fuel economy over the standard engine. Under the Accents attractively creased bodywork sits a MacPherson strut independent front and a dual-link rear suspension. Safety features include depowered airbags and seatbelt pre-tensioners. Unfortunately, ABS for the front disc/rear drum braking system is not even available as an option.
The driver seat features adjustments for height and rake, as well as fore and aft settings. Standard equipment includes a cassette player, rear defroster, trip odometer and power steering.
