From the sound of things, Subaru and Toyota are getting cozier than ever. According to Motor Trend, the two companies are currently exploring ways to integrate platforms, and the fruit of that exploration may very well be the next Tribeca. MT is reporting that engineers are currently looking for ways to base the next-generation Subaru crossover on the bones of the Toyota Highlander. Both models are slated for replacement in 2014, and there’s some indication that the two vehicles will share more than a few bolts when they debut.
According to MT, the project isn’t without hiccups, however. As with the FT-86, both companies need to find a way to work around the Subaru 3.6-liter flat-six found in the nose of the current Tribeca. MTpoints out that the FT-86 avoided this issue by simply using the Subaru engine in the Toyota variant of the sports coupe, though at this point it’s unclear how the Tribeca/Highlander will overcome that particular hurdle. In addition, the crossover platform will also need room for the Highlander hybrid model’s battery packs, which may mean that Subaru will jump into the gas-electric game as well.

Subaru BRZ and Toyota GT 86 production is carried out

Finally, after what seems to be two centuries since the Tokyo Motor Show 2011, which both cars displayed, the Toyota GT 86 and BRZ Subaru began production last Friday, March 16. Presidents of both car companies attended the event.

Presidents of both Toyota Motor Corporation and Fuji Heavy Industries were on hand at the Subaru Gunma factory yesterday to watch the first models come off line, the culmination of a significant retooling that will allow the plant to make both Toyota GT 86/86 / , Subaru BRZ, Scion FR-S. Both the Subaru BRZ and Scion FR-S will be 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing 200 new horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque through a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. The cars are differentiated by some subtle styling cues, different levels of standard content.
A Subaru BRZ runs about $ 24,000 in its least expensive form.

More than two full decades have passed since the company’s engineers seriously sat down to re-examine the engine’s architecture, and in that time, there’s been an explosion of automotive technology geared toward squeezing every last bit of energy out of a drop of gasoline. With fuel economy and emissions standards growing tighter by the day, the minds at Fuji Heavy Industries, Subaru’s parent company, unveiled the third-generation of their boxer engine recently.
But at first blush, the new heir to the Pleiades throne looks to be little more than a carbon copy of its predecessor. Horsepower, torque and fuel economy figures are all within a shave of the old engine’s numbers, and while the company’s competitors are investing heavily in direct-injection systems, Subaru passed on this tech all together. Where was the improvement? Judging by the specs alone, we had to wonder why Subaru went through the trouble of building an entirely new facility just to produce what looked to be the same old beating heart we’d known and loved for years. We jumped behind the wheel of the 2011 Forester to find out just what had changed beneath the hood of its all-wheel-drive family hauler.

Subaru heard the complaints and has made an effort to right its wrongs for 2011 by returning the STI sedan to the lineup and thoroughly reworking the suspension. This leads us to our newest long-termed, a 2011 “WR blue pearl” Impreza WRX STI Limited sedan.

To morph the sedan into an STI, it gained the wide-body panels from the hatch, bigger wheels and tires, STI budging and the signature tall rear wing. Central to the suspension improvements are new pillow-ball bushings attaching the aluminum lower control arms to the front suspension’s sub frame. While the old STI used less expensive rubber bushings with steel sleeves, the new design employs steel bearings to provide twice the stiffness to fore/aft forces and to improve camber and toe stiffness.

In addition, spring rates are increased 15.6 percent up front and 53.0 percent in the rear, ride height drops five millimeters, and the ant roll bars are thicker compared with those on the 2010 STI. The result, according to Subaru, is 33 percent less body roll.

The 2008–10 Subaru WRX STI was something of an enigma, a bit like people who enjoy eating headcheese. Stiffer springs, thicker front and rear anti-roll bars, revised front control-arm bushings, and firmer rear sub frame bushings have been fitted.

Unlike the WRX, the STI features the adjustable SI-Drive system that allows the pilot to tune throttle response, and there are multiple modes for the STI-specific driver-controlled center differential (DCCD). At 3420 pounds, the sedan we tested here was 34 pounds heavier than our long-term 2008 STI hatch. Both STI models get a more aggressive front fascia and a blacked-out grille; the sedan gets a wing that’s big enough to adorn a Formula 1 car.

The STI rides in a suppler, controlled manner than the previous car, despite the stiffer front springs, which also help mitigate under steer at the limit.
The only thing separating them visually is the BBS wheels and the STI sedan’s gigantic wing. We’d stick with the WRX.

This latest version of Subarus venerable Impreza WRX STI features a striking exterior that understates this cars very real performance credentials.

Standard front seat mount, and front and rear curtain airbags offer occupant protection. All STI receive standard heated mirrors, front seats, and windshield wiper de-icier for 2011. The standard audio system now features a single CD, USB port, and audio streaming.

New Subaru Forester. Subaru has two pictures and some minimal information on the brand new Forester released. The fourth generation Forester will end this month at the Los Angeles Auto Show debut and after the summer of 2013 in Europe at the dealers are driven inside.
