Land Rover wants sixteen models

Land Rover

Land Rover is planning its model range dramatically expand. With sixteen models, it is possible that the British least doubling their sales.

Land Rover may have about doubled in 2020, says Autocar. With the new models, the entire range of SUVs covered a model of the Evoque to more seven-seater, for example based on the Freelander.

Head of Design Gerry McGovern says that new variants coming on the Defender, Freelander and Range Rover, the latter six models should start counting. Market forecasts assume that in 2020 about 22 million SUVs sold as Land Rover and radically expand its range and 3 percent of that market manages to conquer, the annual selling 600,000 cars.

Just behind homeland Britain, China is the largest market for parent company Jaguar Land Rover. Favorable for Land Rover and its expansion is that the taste is shifting from ordinary luxury cars to SUVs.

There are in the first eight months of 2012 47.975 Land Rovers sold, up 85 percent over the same period last year. That in China crescendo, is also evident from the fact there are about fifty dealers to come alongside the roughly hundred that are already there.

Project Kahn Cosworth squeeze 500 hp out of diesel Range Rover

web630 rr vogue4 450x250 Project Kahn, Cosworth squeeze 500 hp out of diesel Range Rover
There’s a grand tradition to enormously powerful and torquey diesel sport-utes. Most of them come from the Volkswagen group – like the Touareg V10 or the Audi Q7 V12 TDI – but this, as you might have guessed, is no VW. It’s a Range Rover, uut one that’s been thoroughly worked over.
The modifications have been carried out through the joint efforts of Project Kahn and Cosworth – two British tuners that have been working together for the past couple of years. Their latest product started life as the thoroughly capable and luxurious Range Rover Sport with the 4.4-liter V8 diesel. With 313 horsepower, the diesel Rover is hardly a slouch, but Cosworth has taken it a step further (and then some) by squeezing out a whopping 500 horsepower.
To go with the massive upgrade in output, Kahn has given the Range Rover an extensive cosmetic update both inside and out, with new bumpers from and rear, side skirts, 22-inch wheels and an interior decked out in billet aluminum and perforated & quilted leather trim. Range Rover Facelift with new 510HP Supercharged V8

sypjeo 2010 Range Rover Facelift with new 510HP Supercharged V8
These are the first official photographs of the redesigned Range Rover that will be making its premiere along with its facelifted Range Rover Sport sibling and the Discovery / LR3 at the New York International Auto Show. Land Rover’s premium SUV has received mild styling tweaks in and out along with a series of mechanical upgrades that include the addition of a new 5.0-liter supercharged V8 engine.

The design enhancements to the 2010 Range Rover include subtle exterior revisions with changes to the headlights, grille and bumper as well as the new ‘three-stripe’ LED indicators and redesigned three-section fender vents.
The SUV’s interior benefits from new leather trim for the headlining, pillar and door casings while the facia buttons now feature a satin chrome-plated finish. Moreover, the 2010 model features a new dual view touch screen infotainment system plus what Land Rover claims to be the world’s largest configurable 12-in. Thin Film Transistor (TFT) screen which is found in the instrument cluster.
The most important news under the hood concerns the replacement of the 4.2-liter Supercharged V8 with a new 5.0-litre supercharged V8 petrol engine which is the same one used in the Jaguar XFR. It develops an output of 510HP and a peak torque of 625Nm.
Land Rover supports that despite the significant hike in both power (29 percent) and torque (+12 percent), the new supercharged V8 improves fuel consumption by 7.3 percent to 19mpg UK (14.8 lt/100km or 15.6mpg US) on the EU cycle and CO2 emissions by 7.4 percent to 348g/km, compared with its 4.2-litre Supercharged predecessor.
Other improvements for the 2010 Range Rover include the more powerful braking system, the updated Terrain Response and Stability Control systems and the new surround camera system which helps make parking easier.

Land Rover Defender Concept

Defender Concept
Defender Concept

Before there was the Range Rover, Discovery or Evoque, the was one Land Rover, which came to be known as the Defender. John Edwards, Global Brand Director at Land Rover added: "The Defender is loved all over the world for its simple, honest and distinctive design. The Land Rover DC100 concept builds upon the essential elements of the car’s character and allows Land Rover to open the debate and inspire people to dream about the Defenders of the future.

Land Rover is debuting a Defender-esqe concept car at the Frankfurt Auto show. (Were not sure exactly what the DC100 stands for, maybe Defender Concept, cause were tired of hearing "when is the Defender coming back?" a 100 times a day.)

The concept looks stubby and tough. The previous style Defender was dropped from Rovers US line up after fuel economy and safety regulations (as in no air bags) deemed it untellable here.

This is the radical all-new look for the classic Land Rover Defender.

"Replacing the iconic Defender is one of the biggest challenges in the automotive design world; it is a car that inspires people worldwide," says Land Rover design boss, Gerry McGovern.

"This isnt a production-ready concept but the beginning of a four-year journey to design a relevant Defender for the 21st century."

Although the Defender is one of the motoring worlds most famous vehicles Land Rover only sells approximately 20,000 units annually around the world.

"Loved the world over for its simple, honest and distinctive design, we are determined that the new Defender will be true to its heritage, while meeting the requirements of a changing global market," says John Edwards, Land Rovers Global Brand Director.

The engineering team behind the Defender is headed by Australian ex-pat Murray Dietsch, who worked on the Ford Territory. "Weve been working on Defender for a while," Dietsch said recently. "The companys pretty serious about it.
