Toyota FT-86 |
With the proportions of its long, low bonnet, high wings and rear-set cabin paying homage to Toyota’s illustrious sports car history, the dynamic power of the FT-86 II concept gives the clearest indication yet as to the final design of Toyota’s next sports car. Featuring a long, 2,570mm wheelbase, the concept is 4,235mm long, 1,795mm wide and just 1,270mm high.
Allied to a front engine, rear-wheel drive format, this awards the Toyota FT-86 II lively, accessible performance, highly engaging, readily-exploitable dynamic abilities and maximum driving pleasure.
While everyone was expecting to see the production version of the Toyota FT-86 sports car, the company has decided to tease us with yet another concept version of the car. Since Toyota has decided to aim its next sports car at younger buyers, they’ve stepped up their game with a more attractive exterior design. As did the design inspired by the legendary 2000 GT which was first displayed at the 1965 Tokyo Motor Show.
Toyota is certainly drawing out the development of its new rear-wheel drive sports car, having first shown a concept of its future model back in 2009 and now two years later showing yet another concept of it. Toyota has since confirmed that the Toyota FT-86 II is the strongest indication yet of how its new sports car will look, and that designers have unashamedly looked to the automaker’s sports cars of the past, such as the legendary 2000 GT of the 1960s, for inspiration.
