Most reviewers aren’t pumped about the redesigned tC. Scion tried to accomplish lot in updating the 2011 tC while still keeping the tCs price under $20,000. The base Mazda3 starts at $15,450, $2,320 less than the six-speed manual transmission tC.
The Civic and Fiesta also save buyers money. The 2011 Scion tC is a two-door coupe. The tC’s 2.5-liter engine four-cylinder engine produces 180 horsepower and 173 pound-feet of torque.

Staying true to Scions original mission, iPod integration comes standard in the tC, and the cabin tech is as upgradable as ever. A big, multifunction knob controls volume with dial movement and also operates as a joystick to tune radio stations. The Pioneer head unit has three audio settings under the banner of Scion Sound Processing, labeled Hear, Natural, and Feel. Depending on how you look at it, the new 2011 Scion tC is either the second-generation tC or the ninth generation of the Toyota Celica.

The new tC rides on the same 106.3-inch wheelbase, stretches out the same 174.0 inches long overall and stands the same 55.7 inches tall. The front track width increases from 59.3 to 60.6 inches, and the rear goes from 59.3 to 61.4 inches. The larger-diameter and wider tires make the new tC seem somehow more voluptuous. The brakes are bigger too, with front ventilated discs increasing from 10.83 to 11.65 inches, and the solid rear discs growing from 10.59 to 10.98 inches.

The tCs new 2.5-liter engine is virtually identical to the four-cylinder engine offered in the 2010 Toyota Camry SE. The Camry SEs engine is rated at 179 horsepower at 6000 rpm, with 171 lb-ft of peak torque at 4100 rpm. Thanks to slightly different engine-control computer programming and different intake and exhaust systems, the tC develops one extra horsepower at 6000 rpm and two more lb-ft of torque at 4100 rpm. Moreover, a new six-speed manual and automatic transmissions take advantage of the new engines muscle.

The Drive
Tuned for midrange power and solid torque production, the tCs powerplant isnt a screamer like the rev-happy, 8000-rpm redline, 197-horsepower 2.0-liter engine in Hondas Civic Si.

As before, the tC comes with a panoramic sunroof as standard equipment. With the roll-up shade retracted, the roof gives the tCs interior a nice roomy feel.

For buyers in the tCs target demographic, an eardrum-crushing sound system is a must. The tC comes standard with 300-watt system with a 160-watt Pioneer-branded head unit and a 140-watt two-channel amplifier feeding eight speakers. The tCs exterior may promise excitement, but the chassis delivers more comfort than thrills.

Toyota claims a 0-to-60 mph time of 7.6 seconds for the manual transmission version of the new tC and 8.3 seconds for the automatic. Like the first Celica, the tC is sort of a five-sixth-scale Mustang, and like the Mustang, the tC is still accessible to young buyers. According to Toyota, the median age of tC buyers is 26, and its easy to see why. The 2011 Scion tC is a good idea today.

Scion has always maintained that tC stands for Touring Coupe.

Chrysler, the automaker at the forefront of the minivan movement back in the 1980s, is seriously rethinking its family-hauler business. As we reported earlier, Chrysler will be scrapping one of its two minivan twins by 2013, making room for a smaller micro-van to launch within the next few years – a vehicle that will compete with the likes of the Ford C-Max and Mazda5. Now, Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne has reportedly confirmed that a hybrid version of the company’s next-generation minivan is on its way, scheduled to debut by 2013.
The powertrain slated for use in the hybrid minivan will use the same powertrain technology that we’ll be seeing in the gasoline-electric version of the Chrysler 300 sedan, also set to launch in 2013. The new van will be built at the automaker’s Windsor Assembly Plant in Canada – the factory where both the Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan are built today.

Beijing Automotive Industry Corp, or BAIC, is looking to buy Italian design firm Pininfarina. The Chinese automaker is already working with Pininfarina in collaboration on its upcoming models based on older Saabs.
Since mid-2009, Pininfarina’s family ownership has been looking to unload its majority stake in the company. Interest from several Chinese automakers has been piqued and BAIC is not alone in bidding for the right to purchase the design house. Brilliance and Anhui Jianghuai Automobile have put in bids, as have Indian automakers Mahindra and Bajaj Auto and Canadian parts supplier Magna International.
Regardless of BAIC submitting a winning bid, work with Pininfarina is proceeding and we expect to see the fruits of both companies’ efforts at a car show sometime in the very near future.

Japanese automaker Nissan is testing a super-green way to recharge its Nissan Leaf electric vehicle using solar power.

Electricity generation and storage for regular consumers are drawing attention in Japan after the March 11 earthquake and tsunami caused massive blackouts in the countrys northeast.
With the country steeped in power-saving mode, energy generation has become all the rage among Japanese automakers.

Nissan Motor Co on Monday unveiled a new charging system that gets electricity from solar power that can also be stored in the lithium-ion batteries used in its Nissan Leaf electric car.

The 488 newly installed solar panels at Nissans global headquarters will produce enough electricity to charge 1,800 Nissan Leaf a year, allowing drivers plugging into one of its seven charging spots to travel on carbon-free energy.

The firm is targeting cumulative sales equivalent to 100,000 electric cars worth of second-life batteries in 2020.

Two weeks ago, Toyota Motor Corp began a test-run of a model home that manages electricity consumption and taps into weather forecasts to maximise the use of solar power. The project, led by Toyota City and comprising about two dozen companies, will run a trial through 67 houses to be sold by Toyotas housing unit, Toyota Home, by the end of 2013.

The 2011 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport is only the worlds fastest production car, as certified by Guinness World Records. To that end, the Super Sport sees every major mechanical system revamped. Where the Veyron sees its peak torque remain flat between roughly 2,000 rpm and 5,000 rpm, the Super Sport doesnt reach maximum until 3,000 rpm. At $2.3 million, the Super Sport is about as expensive a car as youll find rolling out of any factory today. But considering no other production car can achieve the Super Sports 258-mph top speed (electronically limited for the tires; for the world record, it hit 268 mph), if bragging rights are whats ultimately important, theres no other car worth considering.

The Bugatti Veyron is (still) the world’s fastest production car, having just wrested the crown from itself in a successful world-record attempt. On Volkswagen’s Ehra-Lessien test track just outside of Wolfsburg, Bugatti’s official test driver got the new Veyron 16.4 Super Sport to hit a two-way average speed of 268 mph.

Production versions of the Super Sport will have their top speed electronically limited to 258 mph, in order to protect the tires from certain, expedient death. The Super Sport will make its public debut at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in August. Production begins in the fall at Bugatti’s Molsheim Veyron hand-crafting facility. We’re waiting for the inevitable roadster version, which will have to be called Super Grand Sport.

On the exterior the car gets expanded and reshaped front air intakes, a revised back with double diffuser, and a centrally arranged exhaust system.

On a beautiful sunny day at 25 degrees the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport achieved a new landspeed world record for production cars, on the proving grounds of the Volkswagen Group at Ehra-Lessien (nearby its headquarters at Wolfsburg). In the presence of the German Technical Inspection Agency (TÃœV) and a representative of Guinness Book of Records the Super Sport achieved an average top speed of 431 km/h.

No one but the driver is allowed to touch the car during this time. This time the car reaches 434, 211 km/h. This even hit Bugatti’s engineering team by surprise.

The Super Sport is a consequent of the further development of the classic exclusive 1,001-hp Bugatti Veyron 16.4, launched in 2005. With lateral acceleration of up to 1.4 G and improved interaction between the tyres and the intelligent all-wheel drive system, the Super Sport offers perfect handling and even more powerful acceleration of 1,500 Newton metres on corner exits.

The skin is made entirely of carbon-fibre composites, and the new Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport is available in 100 per-cent clearlacquered exposed carbon on request.

This ethos remains alive and well at the company, and the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport is wholly unmistakeable, with every external modification serving to coax greater performance from the car. The Super Sport’s flat, elongated silhouette is immediately recognisable. Bugatti has a tradition of making super-sport versions of successful models, usually with racing chassis and supercharged engines. These cars were considered as true racing machines for diehard Bugatti devotees. Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S. has sold 260 Veyrons and 35 Grand Sports by now, of which 249 Veyrons and 22 Grand Sports had been delivered. The Super Sport will begin production this autumn at Molsheim along with the Veyron and the Grand Sport.

Which they describe the images on the configuration model JDM Modellista, and now we can show a fresh batch of pictures from a Japanese magazine.

The pictures show a red Toyota FT-86 and interesting info about the new sports car in Asia. Indeed, a more standard FT-86 looks better for our eyes from the FT-86 pimped by Modellista; clean lines and looks more integrated. And very good.

Following the revelation of Opel’s Agila earlier today, Suzuki released the first pictures of the Splash mini that will debut along with the Agila at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Theoretically, the Suzuki’s new mini which is based on the Swift platform is closely related to last year’s Splash Concept, however, design-wise we see very little in common between the two. Since the Agila is based on the Splash with very few optical differences like the redesigned front-end and rear light-clusters, there’s no difference in dimensions (3.740 mm in length, 1.680 mm in width and 1.590 mm in height). Likewise, the engine range will consist of three engines, two petrol 1.0 & 1.2-liter delivering 65 and 86 Hp respectively and one 1.3-liter common-rail turbodiesel with 75 Hp. The Splash is expected to go on sale in Europe next spring

It will be available with two different petrol engines: a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder, 12-valve unit with maximum power of 48kW (65hp) and a 1.2-litre, four-cylinder, 16-valve unit with maximum power of 63kW (86hp). With these engines, low friction and plentiful flat torque delivery at low and mid-range speeds help to ensure good driveability across the rev range while promoting fuel economy and limiting CO2 emissions. Customers preferring a diesel engine can choose a proven 1.3-litre, common rail, 16-valve unit with optional particulate filter and a maximum power of 55kW (75hp). In light of the growing need for environmental compatibility, emissions of all three engines with 5-speed manual gearbox are between only 120g/km and 140g/km. The petrol engines were both newly developed by Suzuki Motor Corporation as next-generation power engines. The diesel engine will be produced at Suzuki’s plant in India under licence from GM Powertrain Europe.
Suzuki aims to sell up to 60,000 units per year of the Splash in Europe. The brand-new model has been developed by Suzuki Motor Corporation and will be produced by its subsidiary company Magyar Suzuki Corporation in Hungary.

This year’s Auto Expo in New Delhi, India, is turning out to be a crowd puller as many automakers chose the show to unveil an array of concept and production models designed with the domestic market in mind. Maruti Suzuki took the covers off the R3, a Compact Multi Purpose Vehicle (MPV) that was penned at the firm’s Research and Development Department in India.

Despite its compact size, the futuristic looking concept model can accommodate a total of six passengers in three rows of seats. Suzuki didn’t release any more details on the R3, but it has been speculated that the concept model may base a production version in the very near future.

This certainly isn’t the first time we’ve heard rumblings about Lexus working on a performance version of itsGS sedan. The crew at Road & Track reports that the upcoming GS-F will serve as the range-topping trim in the GS model range, set apart from its siblings with not only a more aggressive appearance, but a serious increase in power, to boot.
Sources within Toyota have told the buff book that the GS-F will be powered by a 5.0-liter V8, just like the smaller IS-F, but that output will be increased to 465 horsepower for the larger sedan. The other key ingredient to making the GS-F a serious performer is a substantial reduction in weight. Through the use of aluminum and carbon fiber components, Toyota aims to have the GS-F weigh in at about 3,700 pounds, meaning it should be capable of ripping off 4.5-second 0-60 times.
Toyota is positioning the GS-F to compete with the likes of the BMW M5 and Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG, with prices to start somewhere around the $90,000 to $100,000 range. No official timeframe has been given on when we’ll actually see the GS-F, but R&T states that it could show up as early as 2012, after therefreshed GS range debuts.

Revised Mazda5 also includes a high-styled interior, although the holding is more than the current Mazda3. This is partly good: only a hood over the instrument, which increased to the point, it seems excessive. Nacelles Instruments protect from glare, so that the hood is not only futile, it also needs to show. Class one interesting detail: the red piping and stitching on black leather chair that Grand Touring. But the eye of the designer is still needed in other parts. Its too flat panel doors and center console is too plain and looks like an aftermarket accessory cheaper than the factory. Some work hard black plastic does not look cheap, but not many things that include 2012 Mazda5s interior. Overall, the interior of the C-Max is more interesting and better appointed, would be too stylish

Some automakers call their cars by name. Others give them alphanumeric designations. The trouble with the latter is that, if you follow a formula, sooner or later the sequence is going to either run out or repeat itself. That’s the issue that Peugeot is looking at with the next generation of its popular hatchback range.
The current model is called the 308, so it would follow logically that its successor be called the 309. After that the French automaker would have to either abandon the traditional _0_ naming scheme that identifies all its products (and the _00_ for minivans and crossovers) and dip into the _1_ range, but even before that comes up, Peugeot’s facing the issue that it already produced a model called the 309 between 1985 and 1993.
Rather than reuse the same nameplate, sources speculate that Peugeot could go for a name designation like it did with the RCZ coupe. The formula would likely follow across the range, leaving sister-company Citroën to stick with its alphanumeric C_ and DS_ naming scheme.
