Rumormill Yet Again Lexus GS F is coming

This certainly isn’t the first time we’ve heard rumblings about Lexus working on a performance version of itsGS sedan. The crew at Road & Track reports that the upcoming GS-F will serve as the range-topping trim in the GS model range, set apart from its siblings with not only a more aggressive appearance, but a serious increase in power, to boot.

Sources within Toyota have told the buff book that the GS-F will be powered by a 5.0-liter V8, just like the smaller IS-F, but that output will be increased to 465 horsepower for the larger sedan. The other key ingredient to making the GS-F a serious performer is a substantial reduction in weight. Through the use of aluminum and carbon fiber components, Toyota aims to have the GS-F weigh in at about 3,700 pounds, meaning it should be capable of ripping off 4.5-second 0-60 times.

Toyota is positioning the GS-F to compete with the likes of the BMW M5 and Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG, with prices to start somewhere around the $90,000 to $100,000 range. No official timeframe has been given on when we’ll actually see the GS-F, but R&T states that it could show up as early as 2012, after therefreshed GS range debuts.

Lexus Announces Increased Prices for 2010 Models Updated LS600h L Starts from 109 675

The 2010 model year brings a price increase for most Lexus models, ranging from $300 for the IS 250 and IS 350 to $900 for the GS 450h and SC 430. The company also announced pricing for its updated flagship limo, the 2010 LS 600h L that starts from $109,675 including a delivery, processing and handling fee of $875.

The new LS 600h L hybrid sedan benefits from a subtle makeover that includes revised front grille, bumper and tail lights, plus newly designed 19-inch alloy wheels, exterior mirrors with integrated turn signals and exhaust diffusers.

Also new are the front active headrests, the standard Intuitive Park Assist with Advance Parking Guidance and Intelligent High-Beam, a driver’s seat with auto slide-away, an LCD instrument cluster, rear power sunshade and an upgraded navigation system.

Lexus RX 400h Ad Banned For Misleading Low Emissions Implications!

Our friendly British advertising watchdog has done it again by banning a Lexus magazine advert for the RX 400h on the grounds of false claims! For those of you with a hefty memory, the British Advertising Standards Agency (ASA) had banned Ford’s “Focus Zetec Climate” TV ad last year due to complaints from two viewers who said that it was misleading.

The magazine ad for the Lexus RX 400h was headlined “HIGH PERFORMANCE. LOW EMISSIONS. ZERO GUILT”. Following the picture of the SUV, there was a text stating “RX 400h. The world’s first high performance hybrid SUV … category-leading low CO2 emissions. A combination without equal. Or compromise”. In the small print, Lexus stated that the RX 400h’s carbon dioxide emissions figure was 192g/km CO2. -Continued: Click “Read More…” below

ASA received 10 complainants stating that Lexus’ advert was misleading as it falsely implied that the SUV caused little or no harm to the environment. Lexus argued that the CO2 emissions of the RX 400h were very low compared to those of core competitors within its category and that the prominence of the illustration of the vehicle in the ad clarified the type of car the headline claims referred to and also the class of vehicle to which they applied.

The British advertising watchdog wasn’t convinced. In their release, they scold Lexus not to imply in future that a car caused little or no harm to the environment and had low CO2 emissions in comparison with all cars if that was not the case. Ouch…

Lexus CT 200h, which is scheduled to hit dealer showrooms in late February, is a terrific upscale alternative to the Toyota (TM) Prius. This all-new model has two big selling points: A relatively low price—its the least expensive model in Lexus lineup, with a starting price of $29,995—and an average fuel economy rating of 42 miles per gallon.

The sporty, well-bolstered front seats are much more comfortable than front seats in the Prius. As in the Prius, the rear seats fold down to make a large hauling space.

The CT 200hs 42-mpg fuel economy rating (40 mpg on the highway, 43 in the city) lags the Prius 50 mpg, but equals that of the Honda Insight and beats most other hybrids. As I engaged in about 225 miles of mixed driving in frigid winter weather, I averaged 37 mpg. The CT 200h has three driving modes: eco, normal, and sport.

The good: With its hybrid electric system, the 2011 Lexus CT 200h delivers excellent fuel economy. A sport suspension makes for good handling. The premium sound system creates high-quality audio.

The Bluetooth phone system is short on features.
The bottom line: Despite its sporty appearance, the 2011 Lexus CT 200h uses its hybrid power train for fuel economy, not speed. Lexus offers solid cabin tech that falls short of groundbreaking.
Ultimately, it favors fuel economy over raw power, getting an EPA-rated 43 mpg city and 40 mpg highway.

As a hatchback, the CT 200h shows plenty of internal versatility, with rear seats that fold down, allowing for plenty of cargo room. Thick rear pillars and a narrow strip of tinted back glass give it rally car style.

All-new for 2011, the Lexus CT200h adds another dedicated hybrid to the Lexus brand; however, unlike the HS250h this one emphasizes sporty looks and value.

Starting at $29,120, the 2011 Lexus CT200h comes into the lineup as Lexus’ entry-level model. While the Lexus CT200h may not be the sportiest compact luxury car available, it is the most fuel-efficient.
